Ferreira and Romeu shined on the first day at the Cologne Boxing World Cup

The highlight of the week, the Cologne Boxing World Cup stated in Germany with 38 bouts and all of the winners advanced to the semi-finals of the international competition. Brazil’s AIBA Women’s World Champion Beatriz Ferreira and her teammate Jucielen Romeu impressed on the first day of boxing competitions.

Brazil’s tough girls opened the Cologne Boxing World Cup with triumphs

Brazil sent its top team to the Cologne Boxing World Cup and in the opening session of the competition, their women started well against good opponents from Europe. AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Jucielen Romeu joined the national team in 2017 and following several tough experiences she was able to beat France’s Mona Mestiaen in the featherweight (57kg).

Brazil’s defending AIBA Women’s World Champion in the lightweight (60kg), Beatriz Ferreira met with an inexperienced Dutch girl, Husniye Calisir in the quarter-finals. The Brazilian is relatively small in this weight category but she is so tough and experienced on the international stage. Ferreira lost only five contests during her whole career and she landed seriously strong punches but the Dutch talent was able to continue the contest until the final gong. The final verdict was a unanimous decision in favor of Ferreira.

Germany’s Boakye-Schumann and Shadalov won excellent battles in Cologne

Germany’s Kevin Boakye-Schumann eliminated France’s Moreno Fendero in the semi-finals of the 2020 edition of the tournament three months ago. The German middleweight (75kg) boxer, who trains with 1985 European Champion Michael Timm, had to meet with his French opponent once again in Cologne but this time in the quarter-finals. Fendero moved ahead without any pauses and he tried to control the fignt from a close distance but Boakye-Schumann’s footwork was impressive on their re-match. Fendero received more punches in the second round and his German opponent was still able to increase the tempo of the contest. Boakye-Schumann was still better in the final round and eliminated his tough opponent once again. His teammate at the featherweight (57kg), Tokyo Olympian Hamsat Shadalov used his virtuoso technical skills to beat Brazil’s Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist Luiz Gabriel Oliveira.

France’s European Games silver medallist Mourad Aliev is a semi-finalist in Cologne

Mourad Aliev from France achieved a silver medal at the Minsk 2019 European Games in the super heavyweight (+91kg) and today he opened his campaign at the Cologne Boxing World Cup. The French southpaw caught his Brazilian opponent, Joel Da Silva in the first round with powerful jabs and took the lead in each of the scorecards. Aliev, who has excellent athletic skills, controlled the second period and used his longer reach to control the contest against the South American who joined the national team only in 2019. The Brazilian’s motto was “never give up” and he landed a serious right hook in the third round but Aliev survived those dangerous moments in Cologne.
