The evening session of the seventh competition day featuring another 28 quarter-final contests was held at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce, Poland. Mongolia produced a perfect session, both of their remaining boxers advanced to the semi-finals to the delight of their nation.
All the winners advanced to the semi-finals and secured a medal in the competition. The Top-8 athletes in the women’s flyweight (51kg), light welterweight (64kg), and middleweight (75kg), as well as the men’s flyweight (52kg), lightweight (60kg), welterweight (69kg) and light heavyweight (81kg) were in action in the session.
Khulan, Chanu, Linkova and Ayari are the medalists at the women’s flyweight (51kg)
Mongolia’s Altanbyek Khulan has been competing in the national events since 2016 and has five years of experience in the sport. She has already secured a medal at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. The athlete has strong Kazakh roots and she is a stout fighter, which the Mongolian was not shy to show against Kazakhstan’s Gulnar Turapbay in the quarter-finals of the women’s flyweight (51kg).
Khulan, whose sister is also a boxer, exceeded all expectations and delivered her best performance yet in her most important contest, perfect timing. Following Namuun Monkhor, she became the next Mongolian women’s talent who could bag a medal at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
In the next bout of the weight category, India’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu eliminated Poland’s Alexas Kubicka in a hectic early final in Kielce. Russia’s Valeria Linkova had a close contest against Finland’s Pihla Kaivo-Oja while the fourth medalist in the category is Italy’s Lucia Elen Ayari.
European dominance at the women’s light welterweight (64kg)
Latvia’s Beatrise Rozentale achieved historical success advancing to the quarter-finals at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, yet she was still hungry for more success and for accomplishing her goal, the medal she was dreaming for. To win a guaranteed medal the Latvian boxer had to beat Germany’s Jenin Heck who replaced Felicitas Ganglbauer in the national team.
The Latvian opened the first round in a different rhythm and her jabs controlled the German boxer at bay. Rozentale tried to jump in several times and was breaking distance well enough in the second round, but Heck countered with tough right-handed hooks in the middle of the bout. Rozentale controlled almost all of the exchanges and despite the great form of the German talent, she managed a great finish with several blows in the last 30 seconds; so, the Latvian celebrated a historical first medal for her country.
Azalia Amineva and Ukraine’s Maryna Stoiko met once again after the final at the 2020 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships, yet the result was the same: the Russian prevailed. Poland secured their next women’s medal in the same weight category, Wiktoria Tereszczak got better than Romania’s Iulia Gita.
“I am happy, naturally, that I won the bout but my full focus is on the upcoming semi-final which is the most important for me at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. That will be my key fight in Kielce,” said Tereszczak after her impressive quarter-final success.
Sukhbat and Muzafarov are the new stars of the men’s flyweight (52kg)
The men’s flyweight (52kg) is a really strong category at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce. Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Muzafarov won a silver medal in their Elite National Championships and he arrived as a favorite in Poland but he had to face Japan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Daiya Kira who had fabulous bouts in the previous stages.
Muzafarov and his coaching staff analyzed the Japanese boxer’s movements and prepared well for the quarter-final bout. The 18-year-old Uzbek stepped back fast when Kira started his attack, while his counter-punches landed perfectly. The Japanese was not able to find a good enough strategy against the quick Muzafarov, so the Uzbek advanced to the semi-finals of the category.
Mongolia’s Enkhzorigt Sukhbat, one of the top boxing prospects of the nation, also bagged a silver medal at his latest elite national competition. The Mongolian talent taught an amazing lesson of boxing in his quarter-final bout against Spain’s last remaining boxer, Juan Pantoja. Sukhbat’s attacks had impeccable timing, while his virtuoso technical skills let the Mongolian national team enjoy a perfect evening.
