The bout of the day
Israel sent their best talents to the Gheorgheni Open to Romania in June to get international experience for the team. Their Eric Lalmiev is a 14-year-old talent who had a tough first bout against Georgia’s Losif Javari at the 66kg. The Georgians are seriously strong in this age group, they have several gold medal contenders but Javari was not able to find the best weapon against Lalmiev on Day1. The Israeli boxer won two out of the three rounds and his skills were enough to beat the Georgian talent in Erzurum. Their contest was one of the best ones in the day and a small surprise too.
The Round-Up
England had to miss the EUBC Schoolboys & Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships in 2021 but the country returned to the competition in Erzurum. They had a strong selection event a few weeks ago and the best talents received the right to compete in the continental championships. George Francis was their first boxer in action during the opening bout of the EUBC Schoolboys & Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships. England’s 14-year-old pride landed the better shots than Israel’s Adel Saris and advanced to the next round at the 42kg weight class.
The Georgians had a few issues in the previous weeks but the country could manage to send their team to the EUBC Schoolboys & Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships. In the second bout of the competition Akaki Basaria opened the first round better than Hungary’s National Cup winner Dominik Gombai and took the lead on the judges’ scorecards. The Hungarian boxer competed at the Gheorgheni Open in June and he had already international experiences but Basaria won all of the three rounds and joined the next preliminary round at the 50kg weight class.
Ireland also competed at the EUBC Schoolboys & Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships last time in 2019 as England. The boxing power returned to the competition with their best talents in Erzurum and Brandon Geoghegan was the first in action from the squad. The Irish talent worked hard from the first seconds against an experienced rival, Israel’s Amin Wahbi and took the lead on the scorecards. The Israeli boxer was not able to keep the rhythm in this contest and the Irish youngster secured the spot in the next round at the 50kg weight class.
Armenia hosted the EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships less than three months ago and their talents opened the new continental event with excellent performance. Alen Stepanyan shocked his rival, Estonia’s Nikita Korsunov in the first round with his effective shots and demonstrated his power. The Armenian controlled the exchanges and won the bout in the busy 57kg weight class. His teammate, Samvel Siramargyan had a quick contest against Moldova’s Gheorghi Dulgher at the 66kg weight category. The Armenian boxer landed precise and tough punches and the referee stopped the contest already in the first round, confirming Siramargyan’s RSC triumph.
