Busenaz Surmeneli opened her campaign at the Silesian Open where Bustamante caused the main sensation on Day2

A longer competition day was held at the 17th edition of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice, Poland on Day2. Several of the stars of the tournament such as Turkey’s No.1 Busenaz Surmeneli, Sweden’s Agnes Alexiusson, Poland’s Weronika Bochen, Hungary’s Luca Hamori all impressed in the second competition day.

The main surprise of the session was delivered by Chile’s ex-Italian boxer, Valentina Bustamante who used the right tactics against Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Champion Rimma Volosenko on Day2.

The new 17th edition of the Silesian Open will be preparation events for the upcoming IBA Youth World Boxing Championships, EUBC European Women’s Elite Boxing Championships, ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and the EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships. The Technical Delegate of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament is Mr. Dragoljub Radovic of Montenegro.

The competition is being held for the women’s elite, youth and junior boxers in Gliwice. The Event Director Mr. Henryk Wilk is the engine of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament who launched the competition to develop female boxing in Poland and in the entire European continent.

The bout of the day

Poland’s Weronika Bochen earned medals in the previous EUBC European Boxing Championships as a junior and a youth boxer. The 18-year-old heavyweight (+81kg) boxer opened her campaign in the second day of boxing in Gliwice and faced a competitive rival, Ukraine’s Iryna Lutsak. Bochen had the height advantage against the Ukrainian boxer and she felt the support of the home crowd too. Lutsak increase her tempo in the second round but Bochen worked enough to win their meeting in Gliwice but a possible re-match could be coming soon between them at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships.

The surprise of the day

Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko achieved a gold medal at the 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Dubai and she won several international tournaments in the previous years. The 30-year-old Kazakh met Chile’s ex-Italian Valentina Bustamante in the second day of boxing in Gliwice. Bustamante, who earned medals in the previous events, was never stopped attacking in their lightweight (60kg) contest. The South American exceeded the expectations and her pressure delivered a surprise success over one of the most experienced Kazakh boxers.

The Round-Up

Poland’s Martyna Jarzabek defeated Hungary’s 15-year-old Sara Varga in a previous junior event and she was able to win their second meeting in Gliwice. The scorecards showed equal points on both sides after two rounds but Jarzabek turned up the heat and she was able to perform fantastically in the third. Following Jarzabek’s success at the junior featherweight (57kg), another super talented boxer, Denmark’s Nadja Munkholm impressed in the same category, she defeated Germany’s Penelope Grochau on Day2.

Lithuania’s Ana Starovoitova participated in all levels of boxing excluding the Olympic Games and she has eight years of experiences in the national team. The Lithuanian female boxing is in developing stage and Starovoitova proved her progress too, she defeated Poland’s Izabela Rozkoszek at the lightweight (60kg). In the next preliminary bout of this weight class, Switzerland’s Ana Milisic controlled all of the three rounds against Poland’s Julia Kurowska and marched to the quarter-finals in Gliwice.

Czech Republic’s Lenka Bernardova caused a strong surprise at the Sofia 2019 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships when she earned a bronze medal. The currently 21-year-old Czech girl moved up to the lightweight (60kg) and she has been preparing for the upcoming EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships. The Czech girl controlled the first round against a younger Kazakh talent, Aidana Zabynbekova and she used her distance well in the further parts of their meeting. Bernardova had the stamina in the third round to win their contest and marched to the quarter-finals in this 17th Silesian Open.

Sweden’s Agnes Alexiusson proved a fantastic year in 2013 when she earned gold medals in all of her championships. The Swedish No.1 has qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games and she continued her career after the event and keeps the focus on 2024. Alexiusson has beautiful technical skills and she landed shots from longer distance against Poland’s Zaklina Kociolek in their lightweight (60kg) bout. The 26-year-old Swedish boxer kept her Polish opponent on long and she switched her tactics during the contest to win this preliminary challenge by large margin of differences.

Turkey’s two-time World Champion and Olympic Games winner Busenaz Surmeneli is one of the biggest names in the Silesian Open Women’s Tournament who spent a very short time in the ring during her first contest. The Turkish welterweight (66kg) boxer was too strong for Poland’s Olimpia Druzba and the referee confirmed her RSC triumph in the first round. Poland’s EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships silver medallist Aneta Rygielska and Hungary’s best female boxer, Luca Hamori both advanced to the quarter-finals in this weight class with excellent performance.
