The first part of the semi-finals took place in the fourth competition day at the 17th edition of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice, Poland. The junior winners all advanced to the finals on Day4 after their tight meetings in the Open. France’s Teresi Maloe and Denmark’s Nadja Munkholm proved the best junior performance in the session.
The new 17th edition of the Silesian Open will be preparation events for the upcoming IBA Youth World Boxing Championships, EUBC European Women’s Elite Boxing Championships, ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and the EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships. The Technical Delegate of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament is Mr. Dragoljub Radovic of Montenegro.
The competition is being held for the women’s elite, youth and junior boxers in Gliwice. The Event Director Mr. Henryk Wilk is the engine of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament who launched the competition to develop female boxing in Poland and in the entire European continent.
The bout of the day
France sent a few talents to the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament and their junior No.1, Teresi Maloe was able to deliver a fantastic performance in the fourth competition day in Gliwice. She faced Hungary’s newcomer in the junior national team, Noemi Raba at the flyweight (50kg) in one of the best contest of the day. The 15-year-old Hungarian had only 10 contests during her career but she won the Bornemissza Junior Memorial Tournament this June. Raba was competitive once again but Maloe worked hard in the decisive third round to win their semi-final bout in Gliwice. Maloe’s final opponent will be Germany’s Hungarian-descent Bianka Balint who eliminated Poland’s Weronika Hodun.
The Round-Up
Hungary’s 15-year-old Sara Nyogeri competed many international tournaments this year to adopt the level and strength of the junior age group. The Hungarian light bantamweight (52kg) boxer is an energetic fighter and her semi-final opponent, Poland’s Laura Wiatr could not adopt her rhythm. The Polish girl moved forward and wanted to fight but it was perfect for the younger Hungarian who landed multiple shots in their meeting. Nyogeri had strong advantages after two rounds of boxing in Gliwice and she was able to win the contest by unanimous decision which means the Hungarian will be fighting with Ukraine’s experienced Aurika Kostrytska for the title.
Denmark registered only one female boxer in the upcoming EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships but she is a top quality boxer. Nadja Munkholm uses the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament as the last preparation event. The 16-year-old Danish girl won almost all of her contests during her career and she amazed in the semi-finals of the junior featherweight (57kg) in Gliwice. Following her quarter-final triumph, Munkholm delivered another strong performance against Poland’s Martyna Jarzabek and will be boxing for the title with Ukraine’s Veronika Pankevych.
Netherlands’ Aaliyah-Lorraine Hoppema is a newcomer in the international stage and the Silesian Open is her debut. The Dutch girl landed the better shots than Poland’s Maja Razik in their semi-final at the junior welterweight (66kg) and secured a spot in the final of her first international event. Hoppema will be meeting for the title of the Open with Norway’s Helene Berg who eliminated another Polish boxer, Wiktoria Sek. One of the top Polish junior girls, Oliwia Araszewska impressed in the fourth day of boxing against Germany’s Amira Jooma and she joined the final of the light middleweight (70kg).
The youth featherweight (57kg) is a crowded category in the Silesian Open, the participants were still only in the quarter-final stage on Day4. Ukraine’s Anastasia Kramarenko became the first guaranteed medallist in this weight class following her success over Poland’s Elena Gurashvili. Poland’s duo as Natalia Wojciechowska and Natalia Kozibak eliminated their Czech and Swedish rivals and both marched to the semi-finals. The top favourite of the category, Germany’s EUBC European Youth Champion Asya Ari outpointed Ukraine’s Anhelina Lakhno in the fourth quarter-final of the category.
Slovakia’s Tamara Kubalova is their new youth sensation who earned a bronze medal at the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships this year. The Slovakian lightweight (60kg) boxer had an excellent performance against Poland’s Malgorzata Pepek and she eliminated the local boxer by unanimous decision. Kubalova’s next opponent will be her neighbour, Czech Republic’s Barbora Maxova who had a tight success over Norway’s Sara Melgaard. Ukraine’s Tetiana Dovhal and Poland’s No.1 in this category, Aleksandra Cyrek are the further semi-finalists.
