The Turkish Boxing Federation’s first international event in 2021, the Istanbul Bosphorus International Boxing Tournament started with 39 bouts. The Argentineans decided to attend the Istanbul event and their women and men boxers proved perfect sessions on the first day of boxing.
The international competition is held in Turkey’s biggest city, Istanbul after the event has been re-scheduled before. The Istanbul Bosphorus International Boxing Tournament is held in the memory of their officials Mr. Erdinc Güleren, Mr. Abdulaziz Kilic and Mr. Zafer Kaya.
The Istanbul Bosphorus Boxing Tournament will be held in five women and eight men weight categories. Boxers who were born between 1981 and 2002 are eligible to attend the Istanbul Bosphorus Boxing Tournament.
The Turkish Boxing Federation’s previous international event, the Ahmet Cömert Tournament boasts a great tradition that was launched in 1986. The Turkish Boxing Federation has the experience of hosting major AIBA or EUBC Boxing Championships in the recent decade, and the new event has been added to the boxing map.
The Argentineans were perfect on the first day of boxing
The Argentineans sent three women and four men boxers to the Istanbul tournament. Their former top boxer from the 1990s, Fabricio Nieva, is currently their head coach who has built a strong team in recent years. Their new women’s national team member, Sofia Micaela Robles impressed on the first day of boxing and eliminated Ukraine’s Yulia Demyanenko at the flyweight (51kg). Ramon Quiroga, Argentina’s No.1 in the men’s flyweight (52kg), won two out of the three rounds against Turkey’s Samet Gumus. Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist Mirco Cuello was too strong for Turkey’s Yunus Emre Uzun and triumphed over his opponent quickly. The fourth Argentina’s triumph was due to Francisco Veron in the middleweight (75kg) who succeeded over Kazakhstan’s Aman Kazankapov.
Kyrgyzstan’s former Asian Champion Azat Usenaliev defeated a tough Kazakh boxer in the men’s flyweight (52kg)
Kyrgyzstan’s Azat Usenaliev claimed the gold medal at the Amman 2013 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships, which is his career highlight. The Kyrgyz flyweight (52kg) boxer has won more than 90% of his international contests in the recent five years and could also be a favorite at the Bosphorus tournament. Usenaliev returned to the competitions in Turkey and continued his strong performance where he left off last time. The Kyrgyz boxer had unpredictable footwork in the preliminary stage of boxing against Kazakhstan’s Timur Kabdeshov and won his debut contest in Istanbul.
Azerbaijan’s ex-Cuban Osmay Bencomo Torres won the quickest bout of the day
Azerbaijan sent their best boxers to the competition. Osmay Bencomo Torres represented Cuba in the international events but he switched to Azerbaijan and showed his strength at the heavyweight (91kg) on the first day of boxing. Bencomo caught Kyrgyzstan’s National Champion Rustam Yrysbek Uulu in the opening round, and these punches were decisive. The Turkish referee counted the young Kyrgyz and confirmed Bencomo’s RSC victory in Istanbul which was the quickest contest of the first day.
The next competition day in Istanbul
The second competition day holds a marathon program with 57 bouts in the schedule of the Bosphorus International Boxing Tournament. The winners of these preliminary contests will advance to the quarter-finals of the competition in Istanbul.
