The AIBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships turned into its medal phase and several of the upcoming contests are highly anticipated ones in Kielce, Poland. Altogether 278 contests have been concluded after six days of boxing, among the entered athletes 24 are already medallists and 112 boxers will compete for the remaining 56 medals on Monday, Day 7.
More than 50% of the participating boxers are already elite athletes, they were born in 2002 and have international experience. The number of the participating nations is 52 from four different Confederations, a total number of the boxers is 414 men and women.
The AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships will be held in Belgrade, Serbia at the end of this year, and some of these young prospects could have the top elite challenge very soon. Many of them could become the stars in the upcoming years including at the continental and international level.
Altogether 24 boxers from 14 nations already are in the semi-finals of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships with guaranteed medals:
– India: 4 medals
– Kazakhstan, Poland, Uzbekistan: 3 medals
– Thailand: 2 medals
– Armenia, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Russia, Turkey: 1 medal
Further 112 women and men boxers from 32 nations will fight for the medals in the quarter-finals during the seventh competition day on Monday in Kielce:
– Russia: 13 boxers
– Uzbekistan: 12 boxers
– Kazakhstan, Ukraine: 10 boxers
– India: 9 boxers
– Cuba, Poland: 6 boxers
– Azerbaijan, Italy: 4 boxers
– Brazil, Turkey: 3 boxers
– Armenia, Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Serbia, Thailand: 2 boxers
– Belarus, Colombia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Spain: 1 boxer
Women’s 48kg:
India’s Gitika eliminated two favorites including Russia’s EUBC European Women’s Champion Diana Ermakova and she is in the semi-finals where the next rival is Italy’s Erika Prisciandaro who won two European titles during her career. Thailand’s ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Thipsatcha Yodwaree will face Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska in the second semi-final.
Women’s 51kg:
India’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu, Poland’s defending EUBC European Youth Champion Alexas Kubicka and Russia’s EUBC European Junior Champion Valeria Linkova are still in the competition among the stars of the weight class. Chanu and Kubicka will fight in the quarter-final which bout is the highlight of the flyweight (51kg) on Day 7.
Women’s 54kg:
Russia’s European Junior Champion Anastasia Kirienko and Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Nigina Uktamova are the main favorites of the category and both are front runners against their Belarusian and Thai opponents in the quarter-finals. Poland’s Karolina Ampulska showed a strong performance in the preliminary stage and she has the chance to get a medal in Kielce against Kazakhstan’s Aishagul Yeleubayeva.
Women’s 57kg:
India’s best youth boxer, ASBC Asian Youth Champion Poonam won three contests in Kielce and advanced to the semi-finals. The unbeaten Indian star amazed all of the experts once again and she is the favorite in the next stage against Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova. France’s experienced Sthelyne Grosy will face Thailand’s strong Panida Kawkankhun in the second semi-final of the featherweight (57kg) after the rest day.
Women’s 60kg:
India’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Vinka moved down to the lightweight (60kg) this year and defeated such strong boxers as Russia’s Daria Panteleeva and Colombia’s Camila Camilo in Kielce. She is already in the semi-finals where the Indian star will have a bout with Czech Republic’s Veronika Gajdova who has earned a historical medal for her nation. Uzbekistan’s Dilfuza Bekova stopped Romania’s European Youth Champion Loredana-Andreea Marin and can prepare for her semi-final against Kazakhstan’s Zhuldyz Shayakhmetova.
Women’s 64kg:
Russia’s EUBC European Youth Champion Azalia Amineva is the main favorite for the gold medal in the category who have to meet with Ukraine’s best female boxer Maryna Stoiko in the quarter-finals on Day 7. Uzbekistan’s Elite National Champion Mokhinabonu Abdullaeva, Poland’s Wiktoria Tereszczak and Latvia’s Beatrise Rozentale are also still in the competition with strong medal expectations.
Women’s 69kg:
Italy’s 2019 EUBC European Youth Champion Melissa Gemini and India’s Arundhati Choudhary are the main gold medal contenders of the category. Choudhary was the best Asian Women’s Junior Boxer in 2018 and proved significant developments in Kielce. Russia’s 2020 EUBC European Youth Champion Anastasia Kholueva will meet in the quarter-finals with Poland’s strong Barbara Marcinkowska which will be an exciting battle between them. A contest between Uzbekistan’s Khadijabonu Abdullaeva and Finland’s Eveliina Taimi is another highlight of Day 7.
Women’s 75kg:
India’s defending ASBC Asian Youth Champion Sanamacha Thokchom Chanu and Poland’s EUBC European Youth Champion Daria Parada are the top contenders in the women’s middleweight (75kg). The 18-year-old Indian girl will meet with Russia’s Margarita Zueva in an anticipated quarter-final in Kielce where Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Dana Diday can also expect a hard battle against Hungary’s Boglarka Varga.
Women’s 81kg:
Turkey’s three-time European Champion Busra Isildar won all of her international contests during the entire career. She eliminated her Indian rival in the quarter-finals. The Turkish boxer will celebrate her 19th birthday during on April 19, Poland’s Martyna Jancelewicz is her next rival. Russia’s Ksenia Olifirenko will fight against Kazakhstan’s Assel Sagatova in the second semi-final.
Women’s +81kg:
The best four women’s heavyweight (+81kg) boxers are still in the competition and these talents are preparing for their semi-finals in Kielce. India’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Alfiya Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan has got strong fighting skills and her semi-final against Poland’s Oliwia Toborek will be an exciting challenge. Moldova’s EUBC European Youth Champion Daria Kozorez will have a strong tactical job against Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova in the second semi-final of the category.
Men’s 49kg:
Thailand’s virtuoso Ritthiamon Saengsawang eliminated his Cuban rival, Yislan Barrera, and will be boxing in the quarter-finals with another experienced boxer, Russia’s EUBC European Youth Champion Robert Badalian. Another exciting quarter-final of the lightest male weight category will be held between Serbia’s energetic Omer Ametovic and India’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Bishwamitra Chongtham.
Men’s 52kg:
Two favorites will face each other in the quarter-finals of the flyweight (52kg), Japan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Daiya Kira and Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Muzafarov impressed at the previous stages. Azerbaijan’s Ali Zamanov and Russia’s Evgenii Zhorov both won European titles in the past, therefore, this battle will be also an exciting one on Day 7. Spain’s last remaining boxer in Kielce, Juan Pantoja can expect a tough bout against Mongolia’s Enkhzorigt Sukhbat.
Men’s 56kg:
Russia’s Aleksey Shendrik won the title of the 2020 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships and for the guaranteed medal his opponent will be Azerbaijan’s Azrak Babirov. Cuba’s Pavlyukov Youth Memorial Tournament bronze medallist Saidel Horta will have to do a hard work against Kazakhstan’s Yerbolat Sabyr. EUBC European Junior Champion Michele Baldassi of Italy impressed in the preliminary rounds and he will fight against Armenia’s Ruslan Aslikyan in Kielce.
Men’s 60kg:
Japan’s No.1. Reito Tsutsumi claimed the gold medals at the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and at the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. Reito is AIBA Youth World Champion Hayato Tsutsumi’s younger brother, the youth boxer will meet in the quarter-finals with a top rival, Cuba’s Jadier Herrera. Kazakhstan’s two-time Youth National Champion Yelnur Suyunbay, Bulgaria’s EUBC European Youth Champion Radoslav Rosenov and Uzbekistan’s Zolotarev Elite Memorial Tournament winner Aydos Tagaybayev are also still in the competition in the Top-8.
Men’s 64kg:
Russia’s EUBC European Youth Champion Mikail Zainulabidov is the favorite against Kyrgyzstan’s Zhantoro Tashiev in the quarter-finals and could win the whole event. Kazakhstan’s Sabyrzhan Akkalykov will meet with Cuba’s Darian Favier while India’s ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Ankit Narwal will have a tough fight against Brazil’s Ezequiel Da Cruz. The best Czech youth men boxer Erik Suchy won the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament twice within one year and he is still in the competition’s quarter-final.
Men’s 69kg:
Ukraine’s Yuriy Zakharieiev is a two-time EUBC European Youth Champion and a favorite in Kielce. He proved impressive performance in the preliminaries. The Ukrainian will face India’s Sumit while Cuba’s Dany Lafos will fight with Moldova’s EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Vladislav Gudzi. Uzbekistan’s Alokhon Abdullaev and Russia’s EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Cheerav Ashalaev are top contenders of their quarter-finals.
Men’s 75kg:
Bulgaria’s William Cholov won the 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions of the EUBC European Boxing Championships as schoolboy and junior. He can get his next medal against India’s Manish in the quarter-finals, while Brazil’s Cologne Boxing World Cup winner Isaias Ribeiro Filho can continue his success against Ukraine’s EUBC European Youth Champion Ilya Tohobytskyi. Russia’s most experienced team member, EUBC European Junior Champion Mikhail Usov’s next opponent is Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Nurislom Ismoilov.
Men’s 81kg:
Cuba’s top talent Brayan Leon Salgado eliminated Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Zhakpekov in an outstanding contest and he will box for the guaranteed medal with Montenegro’s first-ever European Men’s Youth Champion Petar Lijesevic in the quarter-finals. Russia’s Vasiliy Kaverin and Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion confident Shokhjakhon Abdullaev are also still in the competition.
Men’s 91kg:
The big four of the heavyweight (91kg), Russia’s Ramazan Dadaev, Ukraine’s defending EUBC European Youth Champion Mykyta Gorbatenko, Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Amirshokh Samadov and Kazakhstan’s Madi Amirov are in top shape in Kielce. They will have Iranian, Cuban, Polish and Indian opponents in the quarter-finals of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
Men’s +91kg:
The super heavyweight (+91kg) is the only men’s category where the boxers already advanced to the semi-finals. Hungary’s Elite National Champion Levente Kiss eliminated Russia’s EUBC European Youth Champion Ivan Onishchenko and will meet in the semi-finals with Uzbekistan’s top favorite, ASBC Asian Junior Champion 200cm tall Jakhongir Zokirov.
