Serbia’s third international event in 2022, the 6th Junior Nations Cup will feature in Vrbas on August 9-15

An A category international tournament, the 6th Junior Nations Cup will open the month of August in the European boxing competitions. Serbia hosted the Nations Women’s Cup and the Belgrade Winner Tournament in 2022, and their third international event will be the 6th Junior Nations Cup for the 15 and 16-year-old boxers.

As in the previous editions, the town of Vrbas will be the venue of the Junior Nations Cup on August 9-15 where four competition days are on the official agenda. The venue of the Junior Nations Cup is the Drago Jovovic Sports Hall in Vrbas as in 2021 and the event to be live streamed through their official website: www.bsv.org.rs.

The competition will take place for both genders, and the junior girls and boys are able to compete from the pinweight (46kg) up to the heavyweight (+80kg) in Vrbas. The Tournament Director of the upcoming 6th Junior Nations Cup is Serbia’s ITO, Mr. Jovan Panic. The event is a preparation for the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships which will start at the end of September.

The Junior Nations Cup was launched in 2017 and it is a relatively new international competition in the European boxing map. Poland won the best men’s team award in 2017, following that Kazakhstan bagged that top position in 2018 and in 2019. Serbia was the winner of the men’s team event in the 4th edition in October 2020. Following Germany’s women successes in 2017, the Russians were the best woman team in 2018 and in 2019.

Kazakhstan won seven gold medals in the male finals during the last 5th edition of the event in June 2021 but Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania and Poland also celebrated titles in Vrbas. Montenegro’s new junior sensation Mirko Sarcevic defeated two Kazakh talents at the middleweight (75kg) and won the Best Men’s Junior Boxer Trophy.

Altogether 109 boxers from 16 nations attended in the 2021 competition in Serbia but more athletes and teams are expecting to attend this August. The following nations sent boxers to the 5th Junior Nations Cup in 2021: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia and the United States.
